Saif is in Niger says National Transitional Council, as discussions begin to bring him to trial at The Hague - 28th Oct 2011

Colonel Gaddafi’s son Saif al-Islam has crossed the Libyan border into Niger, a senior official in the National Transitional Council said last night (Thur).The official, who declined to be named for safety reasons, said: ‘There is a contact with Mali and with South Africa and with another neighbouring country to organise his exit.
‘He hasn’t got confirmation yet, he’s still waiting.’
Conflicting reports have arisen on an almost daily basis about his exact whereabouts, but this appears to be confirmation he has left Libya as many suspected he had.

A source with the NTC told Reuters the two surviving indictees were together, protected by Tuareg nomads.
Tuaregs were recruited by Gaddafi to fight as hired guns in Libya in the final months of the conflict.
'Saif is concerned about his safety,' the source said. 'He believes handing himself over is the best option for him.' Read More
