Indonesia Lampung Prepares for Eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau - 6th Oct 2011
As the regency closest to Mt Anak Krakatau, South Lampung is preparing the worst-case scenario to anticipate the increasing activities of Mount Anak Krakatau. In fact, the current alert level of Krakatau is on level 3 (out of maximum 4).
"We have been coordinating with all respective agencies. Even today, we have held a coordination meeting with the Health Office, Public Works Office and Disaster Management Task Force," Secretary of South Lampung Regency Sutono toldVIVAnews.
"The district government set up a task force which is assigned in every district closest to Anak Krakatau. Emergency shelters in the villages are prepared. We’re recruiting people who want to volunteer to support the shelters," Sutono continued.
The number of task force members who have been trained for disaster response, according to him, was 60 people. While there are 12 trained health personnel of the team which work with health centers in each district.
The shelters are located at 42 points. Each has a telecommunication equipment or handy talky to disseminate the latest information on the activity of Anak Krakatau.Read More
